Technology advantage with MagniLium™ productionExisting polarizers of hyperpolarized Helium-3, produced in the late 1990s by MITI (Amersham), are reportedly capable of producing one liter of gas with 35% polarization each day. Approximately one dozen of these were assembled. They are installed at research clinics throughout the US, Canada, and Great Britain. Although GE Healthcare continues to provide technical support, they are no longer pursuing hyperpolarized Helium-3 as a commercial product. They will not be assembling more polarizers. Drug trials aimed at securing FDA approval have been suspended. Xemed’s MagniLium™ polarizer, the HeliBox-Z100, is capable of producing as much as 100 liters per day at polarizations as high as 65%. This production rate can support multiple imaging protocols on a single subject and multiple subjects per day. The polarizer can be shared by several researchers within a single institution or spread over several institutions. Research could be directed at investigating the capabilities of MagniLium™, exploring the etiology of diseases, or demonstrating the therapeutic effects of putative interventions. Xemed is planning a coordinated effort to pursue FDA approval through demonstrations of safety, efficacy, and superiority at sites of clinical partners. |
