ResearchXemed LLC has been operating primarily on funded grants from the National Institutes of Health. The NIH program of Small Business Innovative Research and Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) grants is specifically structured to provide opportunity and incentive for academics to transition new technology out of the University laboratories and into self-sustaining commercial enterprises where they can ultimately contribute to US health care. STTR grants are shared between the commercial enterprise and the academic institution and carried out collaboratively. As of fall 2007, Xemed and UNH have been awarded nine SBIR/STTR grants three of which transitioned to Phase 2. Including funding to Xemed, UNH, and our Boston collaborators, NIH has granted over $7M for development of MagniXeneâ„¢ products and services. |
